Research and Documentation Assist the Legal Manager in preparing all necessary backup research and information required for decision making and provide accurate advice as well ensuring all legal claims are settled amicably, and in line with Management’s discretion. Case Responsibility Handle cases involving GCAA and prepare legal briefs and case papers in order to represent GCAA effectively in court. Follow up on court directives and court orders regarding submission of documents or dates of appearance in court and ensure these are complied with punctually. Ensure GCAA’s case is thoroughly researched and prepared in order to build a strong case before the court and to maximise the chances of a positive outcome. Communicate with Police, public prosecution and courts. Conducting Cases Seek extensions or deferred dates if more time is required to prepare for the case. Appear in court on behalf of GCAA and as appointed by the Ministry and defend GCAA’s case by putting forth arguments and explanations convincingly. Prepare for the case and court arguments in a pro-active manner seeking to counter the points that are likely to be made by the opposing party. Prepare criminal complaint and follow up with police to be sure that complaints are recorded as per procedures and requirement Gather evidence, conduct research from clients as well as witnesses. Maintain the confidentiality of the Authority’s business and activities. Legal Opinion for Internal Departments Provide timely and appropriate legal opinion to all internal stakeholders on legal inquires sent by them after due investigation with relevant parties Provide legal opinion and make relevant changes to administrative decisions for Director General’s office Discuss the issue at hand, its implications and possible outcomes thoroughly with the department concerned to enable effective preparation for filing a lawsuit or preparing the defence or for filing an appeal in a case. Communicate the outcome of court cases or the progress in a case to the departments concerned. Database Management Create and maintain a database containing relevant information about cases handled and key details thereof to help in future reference. Conventions Represent or attend GCAA in ICAO or any other organisation or seminars etc. related to aviation or GCAA Provide recommendations to the committees or the organisations Protect the interests of the GCAA, and to ensure that GCAA policies are in line with the conventions that the country ratifies Contracts and Agreements Advise relevant Departments on legal risks that are identified and of appropriate actions that need to be taken. Ensure that all contracts and agreements are prepared with due consultation with Manager - Legal, with a view to achieving commercial objectives and protecting GCAA against legal risks. Modify and suggest changes to certain contracts that may be required from a business point of view. Assist the Manager - Legal in the process of preparing, approving and reviewing MOUs for GCAA. The job is dependent on UAE legislation regarding matters and Conventions on International Civil Aviation matters adopted by the UAE and applicable aviation international standards of which the job holder should be always aware of their amendments and implementation. The jobholder is expected to provide legal expertise for the Legal department. Key decisions having significant impact on the Legal function are referred to Manager - Legal for approval before implementation. Knowledge and Experience:  Master degree in Law from a well-regarded law school with specialization and expertise in areas such as Air Law that may be required for GCAA’s work  Attorney at Bar with the required legal license to practice law  Desirable 8-10 years’ experience as a lawyer with wide-ranging experience in handling court cases for corporate and government organizations similar to GCAA as well as having adequate work experience in government entities in a similar role.  Ability to multitask and perform under pressure  In depth knowledge of legal practices and procedures.
