An opportunity has arisen for a Head of Engineering to join the Flybe Engineering team. Reporting to the Director of Engineering and Maintenance, the Head of Engineering is primarily responsible for delivering the Airworthiness of the Flybe fleet in accordance with EASA Part M requirements. The position is also the nominated deputy for the Part M Post Holder.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and direct the Engineering team with regard to Airworthiness in delivering the required outputs in line with Regulatory requirements
  • Provide direction and set departmental objectives in line with regulatory and Company requirements
  • Establish the combined Planning team to develop improved strategic and short term planning primarily in support of the Flybe fleet
  • Ensure a strategic long term plan is maintained and that this is used to drive budget planning
  • Ensure standard plans for typical inputs are developed and maintained along with the equivalent material and tooling pre-loads
  • Maintain oversight of the daily maintenance support operation through oversight of Maintrol
  • Provide direction and support to the department to ensure effective and timely support to the Flybe flying programme
  • Establish and develop the Tech Services Engineering Team to meet the needs of Flybe primarily
  • Provide direction and support to the department to ensure effective and timely support to the cost effective and compliant maintenance primarily of the Flybe fleet
  • Establish and develop reliability reporting for the Flybe Fleet
  • Ensure reports are generated to the timeline required and that the content and format is to the standard agreed
  • Maintain oversight of the upkeep of the ARC programme for the Flybe fleet
  • Develop and maintain the ARC programme and ensure resource is available to deliver to the plan
  • Maintain the Flybe CAME in line with regulatory requirements achieved through minimum of an annual formal and documented review
  • Assess the aircraft delivery and return contract conditions
  • Work with the Legal department and specialist external lawyers to ensure that the aircraft lease or purchase conditions, and if applicable the return conditions, are acceptable and at least in line with standard industry practice, if not better
  • Assess possible aircraft purchases and leases for suitability against Flybe requirements
  • Lead the identification of aircraft specification differences and/or requirements to ensure that the aircraft meet both the regulatory requirements and Flybe’s operational requirements
  • Communicate effectively with the aircraft suppliers/manufacturers and or lessors ensuring Flybe requirements are clear
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with the suppliers and lessors at all levels enabling effective cross party communication
  • Lead and direct the Part 21J element of the team
  • Ensure compliance with Part 21J requirements in line with the Company approval

Emergency Response

  • Being prepared to respond, in a crisis, as a Engineering representative and maintaining knowledge of the emergency response programme policies, processes and procedures, as defined by the Emergency Response Programme Manual

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Previous extensive experience of working within a demanding Commercial Aviation Part M organisation at all levels
  • Previous extensive experience of aircraft technical requirements for operation under EASA and CAA regulations
  • Demonstration of direct previous aircraft delivery and handback management
  • Previous experience of managing new aircraft assessments, technical specifications and cost models
  • Experience in delivery of engineering projects to agreed time and cost constraints
  • Extensive management experience in an aircraft maintenance operational environment
  • Aircraft engineering apprenticeship/HNC/Experienced Part M Practitioner/Degree or Licensed Engineer
  • Strong communication skills – written and oral
  • Strong leadership and management skills in highly commercial environment
  • Ability to focus on deadlines and deliverables
  • Collaborative approach to working and team motivator

Desirable Skills and Experience
  • Knowledge of existing Flybe aircraft types and/or those under consideration.
  • Working level knowledge and experience of AMOS.
  • Working knowledge and experience of developing third party Part M opportunities.
  • Strong IT and report writing skills
