Position Summary

The FPI Inspector is responsible for the preparation of castings for minor surface cracks and indications of surface imperfections or defects.
The following describes in general terms the purpose and scope of the position:

• Sprays, brushes, or dips part in liquid penetrant.
• Allows penetrant to dwell on parts for specified period of time.
• Performs penetrant final rinse with water spray.
• Loads parts on conveyor that carries them through the pre-developer dryer for specified time period.
• Places parts in development tank for allotted time.
• Perform pneumatic/hydraulic casting pressure testing operation per customer requirements.
• Performs post penetrant cleaning of parts before forwarding on to next process/department.
• Accurately records required information in customer required log books.
• Responsible for the proper handling and management of hazardous waste generated in their work area.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Working Conditions: The employee is exposed to hot and/or dusty conditions. There are fumes, dust and/or airborne particles from the burning of sand binders and other combustibles when molten aluminum and magnesium contact the molds.

Essential Responsibilities

• Responsible for the proper storage of hazardous wastes within the Penetrant department and collection from other departments, including transportation to the hazardous waste storage shed.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Annual eye exam is required.
• Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.
• Frequently required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.
• Must communicate effectively in english.
• Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Working conditions are: 100% manufacturing environment.
• Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
• Noise level is usually moderate.

Position Requirements

• Ability to read and interpret customer specifications is a plus
• Ability to use measuring instruments including but not limited to calipers, micrometers, and light meter.
• Awareness of calibration certification of equipment a plus
• High School Diploma; up to 3 years related experience in job function and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience
• Penetrant Inspector Level I Certification a plus
• Basic Computer Skills - able to learn new screens, reports, functions and simple software programs with assistance
• As an ITAR regulated facility all candidates must be a U.S. citizen or possess a current U.S. Permanent Residency card
