You will be part of the Product Development Engineering, Aerospace team where it all starts for Bombardier as it sets the stage to take full advantage of its investments and the tremendous growth potential of its new products. The organization is responsible for bringing new aircraft programs to their successful entry-into-service. Currently, these new products are the all-new CSeries commercial aircraft and the high-performance Global 7000/Global 8000 business jets.

In your role, you will:

- Be involved in developing knowledge and expertise on Highly Integrated Control Systems and Distributed Integrated Modular Architectures as well as Critical Embedded Systems integration.
- Define a novel distributed integrated modular architecture based on user/client needs, cost, and required integration with existing applications, systems, or platforms.
- Develop and implement methodologies and procedures to ensure that the architecture supports the safety, security and certification requirements and meet the needs of end users.
- Define standards for validation, verification and functional testing.
- Develop requirements and architecture definition for future aircraft platforms and critical systems integration.
- Develop specifications, prototypes, and initial user guides.
- Apply Model Based Systems Engineering and Model Based Design methodologies, and support their introduction within engineering departments.
- Plan and lead Collaborative developments contributing to the design of a novel aircraft systems architecture.
- Collaborate with the Project Lead to provide regular updates about the progress, design evolution risks, issues and road blocks.
- Provide technical direction and recommendations in design reviews covering the hardware, software, data network aspects as well as the development processes.
- Advise organization on impact of new regulations affecting the architecture.
- Support development and apply Engineering Product Development System (PDS) processes, ARP4754 guidelines, and first principles thinking, and document and share lessons learned.
- Interface with the other stakeholders of the project, i.e. the advanced design group, the disciplines knowledge owners and the fellows of the engineering community, to get their support and ensure that technology is shared.
- Prepare technical documentation and reports capturing the analysis, the results of the activities and recommend the next steps.
- Operate to the defined schedule and cost objectives.
- Provide technical leadership to junior engineers and interns.

Qualifications

As our ideal candidate,

- You possess as a minimum a University degree in the field of computer science/electrical engineering or information systems.
- You possess a minimum of 10 years of experience in aerospace industry.
- You are familiar with Critical Real-Time Embedded Systems, distributed Systems and related technologies (e.g. Networks, Processing, Software development cycles).
- You are familiar with integrated systems architectures such as Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA).
- You are familiar with Model Based System Engineering and Development processes and methodologies.
- You master the ability to influence and work with minimum formal authority.
- You have sound engineering judgment and problem solving skills, you are responsible and accountable, with a positive “can do” attitude, and can positively interact, communicate, and coordinate activities with peers, management, collaborators.
- You have strong oral presentation and technical writing skills in English and good functional French communication skills.
- An understanding of aircraft systems integration at aircraft level, their operation, ground and flight test aspects, component qualification, reliability and safety requirements and FAR Part 25 / CAR 525 certification process is an asset.
- Knowledge of ARP4754 principles as well as DO297, DO178, DO254 standards is an asset.
- Knowledge of aerospace communication protocols, e.g. TTEthernet, AFDX, CAN, ARINC 429, MIL-STD-1553, is an asset.
- Experience with complex safety critical systems such as Fly-By-Wire systems is an asset.
