Overview:

The Engineering Design Lead shall direct product development activities and report progress to program management. Product development activities include technical direction, establishing team priorities, and planning/implementing design tasks. Also, the design lead will develop project schedules, verify the quality and accuracy of engineering deliverables and report status to the program.

Responsibilities:

The design lead will lead the technical staff responsible for assuring timely and successful accomplishment of structures and systems integration Product Development activities. These activities include the following:
• Ensure the structures and systems integration product development activities are coordinated within the project to meet program technical objectives.
• Manage work progress by means of personnel review, metrics review, and/or other control methods.
• Stay abreast of evolving technical and program requirements. Analyze, interpret and communicate this information to affected groups.
• Implement risk mitigation plans, if needed, in areas of technical requirements, performance, and schedule.

Additionally, the design lead will interface with project management on the status and progress of work with emphasis on technical performance, schedule, and resource requirements. The design lead will provide periodic performance status, metrics, and progress reports to program management.

The successful candidate will typically have an engineering bachelor’s degree or equivalent and twenty years of related experience that preferably includes the design and management of major structures and/or systems integration development. Demonstrated experience implementing technical requirements, while meeting program cost and schedule constraints for aircraft structures and systems integration design is highly preferred. A minimum of 3 years of experience in leading and managing numerous engineers to achieve project goals is preferred.
