Job Description

Summary Statement: Applies expert and specialized knowledge to conceptualize, design, develop and test aircraft structures, component parts and related component systems and subsystems for operational aircraft. Recognized as an expert in the engineering discipline both within and outside the Company.

Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities:

Reviews project or customer requirements and independently conceives and develops original engineering solutions and applications in the design and development of aircraft structures, power plant component parts, mechanical and electrical systems and subsystems for commercial, military, executive, general aviation, or special purpose aircraft applications. Conducts analytical studies on engineering proposals to develop design for products. Analyzes engineering data and proposed product specifications to determine feasibility of product proposal. Confers with the customer and Company personnel to clarify or resolve problems with the project specifications and requirements. Originates designs and develops structural, power plant and other operational and structural components that are used in operating aircraft. Designs and develops analytical programs concerned with ground or flight testing, or development of acoustic, thermodynamic, or propulsion systems. Tests models, prototypes, subassemblies, or production items to study and evaluate operational characteristics and effects of stress imposed during actual or simulated operational conditions. May function as Project Manager on very large or complex projects. Provides technical leadership and oversight to the assigned engineering staff. May function as the single point of contact, or focal point, for customers on assigned projects. Represents the Company to other companies, educational symposiums, current or prospective customers or vendors on technical matters related to the job assignment or technical speciality. Functions as project leader, when assigned, and provides technical leadership to 1 to 30 Stakeholders in the Engineering Department. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Ancillary Functions and Responsibilities: Performs other duties as required. These duties may include assignments in job classifications other than the primary assignment.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: ENGINEER SPECIALIST SENIOR

Formal Education, Training, Professional Certification and Work Experience:
Experience may be substituted for the formal education and training requirements in this section at the discretion of management. Bachelor level degree, Master level degree preferred, in engineering or the sciences and fifteen (15) plus years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have 8 years or more experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics or Heat transfer analysis or Thermal Analysis or Ventilation and cooling or Aero analysis related to Thrust Reversers.

Level of Supervision Required:
The level of supervision required described here is representative of that which must be met by a Stakeholder to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Works under consultative toward long range goals and objectives. Wide latitude for unreviewed actions or decisions. Assignments are often self-initiated. Virtually self-supervising.

Communication and Special Skills:
Communicate effectively using electronic media and in written and verbal forms. Make telephone and direct personal contact with internal and external personnel and make formal presentations to small or large groups. Competent in the use of standard software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel.

While performing the duties of this job, the stakeholder is regularly required to sit and talk and hear. The Stakeholder is occasionally required to stand and walk. The Stakeholder must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to travel between facilities and operate standard office equipment. Work in excess of eight (8) hours per day and five (5) days per week as required. Must be able to ascend and descend stairs.
