Job Role:

DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING

Glasgow Airport

Loganair operates a comprehensive network of scheduled and charter flights around the United Kingdom, but predominantly in Scotland. The flying programme is well supported by our engineering function, with a base maintenance facility at Glasgow Airport and line stations at Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen, Inverness, Kirkwall, Sumburgh and Norwich. Our aircraft fleet consists of 28 aircraft - Saab 2000, Saab 340, Dornier 328, Twin Otter and BN-2 Islanders. The engineering function has around 180 employees across Part 145, Part M and Part 147.

As part of our succession planning for 2017, applications are invited for the position of Director of Engineering. The DoE role has responsibility for the safe and efficient delivery of Part 145, the management and support from Part M and the teaching and personal development that comes from our own Part 147 training organization.

An ability to interact and engage well with people at all levels of the airline is absolutely essential, and candidates must be able to demonstrate forward-thinking strategic capability, commercial acumen in dealing with our suppliers and an ability to make a real difference in day-to-day operational situations when the need arises. It’s a very wide-ranging role, giving the successful candidate significant scope to make use of their professional skills and experiences.

The financial budget associated with Engineering is significant. It is necessary that the successful candidate is commercially and economically aware, focused on maximising value and return on expenditure. Planning, costing and ensuring that identified work is carried out to the standards required, on time and within cost, are basic requirements of this role. The incumbent will communicate and work closely with colleagues in other departments of the business to deliver the duties of this role.

The successful candidate will have previously held senior Engineering positions within mid-large sized airlines and have a strong background of proven success, ideally with a grounding with a formal Engineering qualification. The role reports directly to the Managing Director (Accountable Manager) and the successful applicant will become the airline’s Nominated Person for Part 145, so previous experience of holding this responsibility would be advantageous.

For the successful applicant who will grasp this opportunity, who is driven and who is focused on continuous improvement, this will be a rewarding and enjoyable position.
