Primary Purpose of the Job:

To become a key part of a team with a proven track record for delivering hardware for a wide range of land, sea and air based defence related products, developing bespoke hardware solutions for Customers or standard reusable solutions for Product Lines and variants thereof. Work is carried out to a structured hardware design process.

The role will offer experience over a number of different product areas, encompassing everything from product design and development through to larger scale platform integration and will be focused around the core skills associated with a Digital Hardware Engineer, including the following: hardware architecture, requirements specification, schematic capture, design, firmware development, hardware integration, verification, validation and design assurance activities.

Key to this role is the technical management of sub-contractors and as such you must have experience of dealing with sub-contractors / suppliers ensuring they meet technical procurement specifications

Key Tasks

  • Decomposition and interpretation of system requirements & algorithms
  • Digital design, primarily electro-mechanical
  • Hardware Verification
  • Hardware Integration
  • Test, measurement, debug and verification (digital)
  • Technical Management of Subcontractors
  • Design Assurance (Complex Electronics)
  • Technical assistance to production

Essential Skills

  • Experience in the Technical Management of Subcontractors
  • Digital electronic design
  • Electro-mechanical design including Power switching & control, Cabling and enclosure wiring
  • Implementation of complex designs
  • Knowledge of Processing Units
  • An excellent understanding of the fundamentals of High speed digital design
  • A working knowledge of Microprocessors, programmable devices, DSP, FPGA, memory
  • Knowledge of PCB design constraints
  • Cadence Design Entry HDL for schematic capture
  • Knowledge of the relevant markets: defence, security and aerospace

Desirable

  • Knowledge of Firmware design, simulation & test
  • A working knowledge of Signal Integrity Analysis
  • Team leadership / Work package management
  • Design for manufacture / test / support
  • Knowledge of Agile techniques / Lean Engineering
  • Appreciation of the fundamentals of analogue, RF, electro-mechanical and mechanical engineering
