The position is responsible to, and deputises for, the Engineering Manager and provides engineering leadership and support for the fleets whole life support programme, ensuring the safe and effective delivery of contracted Depth Maintenance activities on the Fleet. From a regulatory and governance perspective the position will be required to deputise for the MAA Form 4 ‘Responsible Person’ position and be responsible for ensuring compliance with the regulated and approved Maintenance Organisation MAA MRP 145 Approval, its exposition and associated procedures.

In discharging that responsibility, the Deputy Engineering Manager is required and empowered to make well informed and rapid decisions regarding safety and compliance activities within their span of control.

 

Accountabilities include but are not limited to:

 

        Safety, and regulatory compliance and performance against the MRP, the Safety Management System and any other applicable regulatory requirements.

        Monitoring, controlling and managing contracted maintenance activity to meet regulatory and contractual performance targets.

        Acting in the best interests of the company and the customer by creating and maintaining strong working relationships at the appropriate levels.

        Acting in an effective leadership capacity to meet staff welfare, development and succession planning needs.

        Ensuring that all maintenance activity is wherever possible delivered to schedule whilst maintaining safety as paramount and delivered to the quality standards specified in Part 145.A.65(b).

 

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

 

The aviation sector is highly regulated.  Safety and compliance are the highest priority and the Deputy Engineering Manager must role model, drive and develop an engaged safety and regulatory compliance culture amongst the Sentry engineering team.  The Deputy Engineering Manager as a key leadership role is charged with supporting the leadership team in encouraging the company values.

Maintenance and the associated support activity on the fleet platform is complex and requires the incumbent to effectively liaise with a range of stakeholders.  As such the Deputy Engineering Manager must retain a strong customer focus in delivering the maintenance effort to the contract but be supportive to the broader company strategic aims.  As such, the Deputy Engineering Manager needs to be prepared to work additional hours, be on call after hours, travel and relate to a broad range of clients.

 

Safety and Compliance

        Regulatory responsibility for maintenance activities on the fleets Whole Life Support Programme under MRP Part 145.

        Safety first.  Operations are to be conducted in accordance with the SHE Technical Standards and SHE Procedures with safe systems of work applied to the range of operations and tasks.

        Effective use of risk assessments and application of appropriate countermeasures/mitigations to the range of operations and tasks.

        Effectively work to the principles of the Safety Management System and its supporting processes.

        Encourage an open and honest reporting culture across the engineering team.

        Prepare for and support the internal and external audit programmes ensuring effective corrective actions to Findings/NCRs/observations.

 

Operational Excellence

        Managing Base Maintenance activity (and support to Forward as required), ensuring compliance with the requirements of Military Aviation Authority Regulatory Articles, DEFSTANs’ and all other Company requirements within his/her area of responsibility.

        Ensure maintenance is appropriately certified and that required records are correctly maintained and retained in accordance with MRP Part 145 requirements.

        Represent the client at all relevant stakeholder meetings, including Pre-Input, Scheduling meetings and aircraft allotment meetings as required.

        Providing MAA MRP 145 guidance to the Delivery Manager when required.

        Monitoring adherence to Statement of Work and planned aircraft schedule for Depth Maintenance Activities.

        Ensuring all engineering equipment and facilities are serviceable and maintained to a high standard of tidiness and cleanliness.

        Identifying, formulating, and implementing procedures through a coordinated effort, ensuring common procedures, where appropriate.

        Supporting and actively participating in the company’s continuous improvement process.

        Effectively communicate with all key engineering stakeholders including MilCAM, TAA, MAA, supply chain and prime to identify workable and acceptable solutions to potential technical challenges.

        Fulfilling the responsibilities of the MAA MRP Part 145 Engineering Form 4 holder in the absence of the Engineering Manager, as required.

 

People

 

        Ensuring engineering staff responsible for MRP Part 145 activities are suitably qualified and experienced with sound working knowledge of the area they are responsible for and that they have been properly assessed for competence in role.

        Enable strong succession plans through manpower reviews, recruitment and training.

        Carrying out annual Personal Development Reviews for subordinates

Essential:

        Maintenance Manager or senior supervisor within an Aircraft Maintenance Organisation

        Knowledge and understanding of MAA MRP 145 and associated Regulatory requirements

        Sound knowledge of the principles and practical experience of maintenance planning on complex platforms

        Problem solving, with ability to grasp issues and provide possible remedies

        Effective leadership and management skills

 

Desirable:

        Former military experience working within or with military contracts

        Depth, Depot or MRO experience

        Health and Safety (British Safety Council Level 2)

        Human Factors Awareness and Training

 

Key Measures

        Safe and compliant maintenance operations across the programme.

        Delivery of depth aircraft to schedule to meet contractual KPIs.

        Positive customer feedback on performance with no letters of complaint and no contract penalties.

        Timely submission of all required maintenance documentation and reports as required.
