Corporate Accountant

Reporting to the Head of Finance, the Corporate Accountant will be responsible for the accurate and timely close of our financial accounting monthly processes. This includes being an integral member of the Finance team and support technical accounting research and resolution. The role will also partner with other leaders at Swoop, primarily those in Administrative departments, in promoting cost accountability and finding innovative and cost-effective solutions.

Accounting & Monthly Reporting

· Responsibility for accuracy and completeness of accounting entries processed for Swoop. This includes:

o Posting monthly accruals and other journal entries, as required

o Completing balance sheet reconciliations and investigating any anomalies to expectation

· Research accounting issues and document accounting policy. This role will be the lead technical accountant on the Swoop Finance team and partner with peers in investigating, researching and recommending accounting treatment

· Generate and present monthly reporting information to senior leadership which includes expense variance analysis vs. prior period, budget and forecast

Financial Analysis & Business Partnering

· Key finance support to Administrative Swoop departments and overall responsibility for Capital Accounting

· Support Swoop’s ultra-low-cost culture by ensuring that business partners remain accountable to cost performance by providing them meaningful financial reporting and insights

· Meet with key Swoop leaders/other relevant groups and in partnership build forecast and budgeting models to estimate future costs

· Investigate variances to expectation and provide detailed explanations to business partners

· Track and analyze key performance indicators

Professional Experience/Skills:

· Minimum +5 years of progressive experience in accounting roles

· Highly proficient at technical accountant with experience researching accounting standards

· Ability to quickly analyze business results, identify and clearly summarize key issues

· Highly motivated, energetic and goal-oriented with the ability to work in a fast paced, team environment

· Willingness and a passion for “wearing multiple hats” and doing what needs to be done to support the team

· Excel proficiency and a keen interest in learning new technology

· Possess strong communication skills to provide guidance and/or instruction to peers in the organization

· Confident in presenting financial information to senior levels of management

· Attention to detail, organized and thorough, with a desire for continuous improvement

Education/Qualifications:

· Completion of post-secondary degree in degree in Commerce or Business Administration

· Completion of an Accounting Designation (e.g. CGA, CA, CMA) demonstrating thorough knowledge of accounting theory and practice
