CBA NonDestructive Inspections NDI Lead Columbus AFB

A working lead who performs maintenance tasks and provides training, direction, and guidance to assigned personnel to conduct Non-Destructive Inspections (NDI) of assigned aircraft, engines, and support equipment. Directs the NDI and Oil Analysis Programs (OAP) and ensures the highest quality standards. Directs and conducts NDI of airframes, engines, aerospace ground equipment (AGE), and components to ensure proper execution of all phases of the NDI program. Directs the OAP for assigned and transient aircraft. Coordinates with personnel of all supported activities on matters pertaining to the NDI and OAP programs. Establishes new inspection techniques and evaluates the results of inspections. Trains and monitors NDI personnel in the execution of inspection techniques. Prepares, conducts, and grades examinations for NDI Level I, Level II, and Level III personnel qualification and certification IAW requirements. Coordinates maintenance efforts with the Maintenance Operations Center (MOC) to ensure timely return of aircraft to mission capable status. Plans and coordinates shop workload and dispatches personnel as required. May be assigned as Quality Control augmentee. Ensures that assigned personnel have access to and use adequate technical data during all phases of aircraft maintenance. Ensures personnel are trained and practice good housekeeping, tool control, supply discipline, FOD awareness/prevention, proper disposal of materials, and safety at all times. Monitors the status of aircraft and coordinates efforts with subordinate personnel, supervisory personnel, and MOC. Monitors QC reports and ensures that corrective measures are implemented to improve maintenance quality and prevent the development of adverse trends. Analyzes current practices and problem areas to project future requirements for NDI/OAP. Reviews aircraft records for accuracy and completeness. Annotates maintenance actions in aircraft records and is proficient in IMDS documentation. In coordination with the foreman and the training instructor, provides training to employees. Reviews training products for accuracy and schedules personnel for required training. Assists assigned personnel in researching and requisitioning aircraft parts and components and in determining reparability and serviceability. Reviews aircraft records and work cards to ensure required maintenance has been performed, hourly and calendar tracked events are current, and all associated documentation has been completed. Ensures a positive working relationship and interface with other sections and the customer. Inspects completed work and evaluates employee performance. Completes employee performance reviews. Provides supervisor an evaluation of employee performance and recommends actions to improve employee performance. Coordinates section activities in the absence of the foreman. May be selected to perform special certifications including Red X inspections. Shall assist other personnel and work centers as directed. Must promote Company values, policies, and standards of conduct. Receives cross-utilization training (CUT) and is qualified to perform those maintenance tasks. Must be customer oriented and ensure professional coordination with base agencies. Shall perform other duties assigned to include TDY and travel. Must be able to work day shift, night shift, or weekend duty as required.

Qualifications

Must have a thorough working knowledge of aircraft maintenance operations. An extensive understanding of NDI and OAP methods and procedures as well as the scope and limitations of each test method is required. A thorough knowledge of NDI personnel training, qualifications, and certification is required. Completion of high school or equivalent is required. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English. Must possess a valid NDI Level III Examiner certificate. Graduation from the U.S. Air Force NDI school or the equivalent is required. Completion of the Air Force advance NDI course is desired. Training in spectrometric oil analysis is required. A minimum of five years recent experience in aircraft maintenance, of which four years must have been in a supervisory capacity, is required. Good communication skills and leadership ability are required. In addition, the experience stated below is required for the following NDI testing methods. Must obtain all certifications required to perform the job requirements. Must be able to complete and maintain all special certification items as specified in AETC regulations. Must meet the vision requirements specified by standards. Physical exertion requirement is heavy.

Must be able to climb ladders, stairs and portable stands and navigate these without assistance. Must be able to work at heights 70 feet above the ground. Must be able to work in extreme heat/cold.

Must be able to work in the following environmental conditions: noise, vibration, proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, chemicals, odors, dust. Must be able to bend, reach, stoop, balance, push, pull, kneel, grasp, crouch, crawl, work in narrow aisles/passageways, and work in close spaces that restrict movement including aircraft fuel tanks for extended periods of time.

Must be able to stand for sustained periods of time. Must be able to work primarily with fingers such as picking, pinching, typing. Must have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.

Must be capable of routinely performing industry standard ambidextriosities required to complete tasks. Must be able to lift/maneuver up to 50 pounds. Must be able and willing to enter and work in confined spaces, such as aircraft fuel tanks and beneath floor panels with clearances of 18” – 24”.
