Duties & Responsibilities:

 

1. Be responsible for the safety of all crew members, passengers and cargo on board as soon as he arrives on board, until he leaves the airplane at the end of flight;
2. Be responsible for the operation and safety of the airplane from the moment the airplane is ready to move for the purpose of taxing prior to taking off until the moment it finally comes to rest at the end of the flight and the engine(s) are shut down;
3. Be responsible for all flight documentation, and ensure that information regarding aircraft registration, date of flight, flight number, crew names and duty assignment, departure and arrival airports, ATD, ATA and flight time are all recorded. Refer to OM-A 8.1.10.3 for additional guidance;
4. Have authority to give all commands he deems necessary for the purpose of securing the safety of the airplane and of persons or property carried therein, and all persons carried in the airplane shall obey such commands;
5. Have authority to disembark any person, or any part of the cargo, which in his opinion, may represent a potential hazard to the safety of the airplane or its occupants;
6. Not allow a person to be carried in the airplane who appears to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs to the extent that the safety of the airplane or its occupants is likely to be endangered;
7. Have the right to refuse transportation of inadmissible passengers, deportees or persons in custody if their carriage poses any risk to the safety of the airplane or its occupants;
8. Ensure that all passengers are briefed on the location of emergency exits and the location and use of relevant safety and emergency equipment;
9. 9.       Ensure that all operational procedures and checklists are complied with, in accordance with the SOPs and Operations Manual; ensure compliance with operating limitations as defined by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and established by the applicable Authorities.
10. Ensure that the weather forecast and reports for the proposed operating area and flight duration indicate that the flight may be conducted without infringing Company operating minima;
11. Decide whether or not to accept an airplane with unserviceability’s allowed by the CDL or MEL;
12. Take all reasonable steps to ensure that the airplane, and any required equipment is serviceable and ready for use, and record in the Aircraft Technical Log (ATL), for each flight, a description of known or suspected defects that affect operation of the aircraft;
13. In the absence of a qualified Company engineer(provided he/she been trained and qualified), provide Transit Check when necessary and ensure that airplane refueling is supervised with particular attention being paid to:

i. the correct grade and amount of fuel.

ii. fuel water/contamination checks (or sample) from the fuel bowser;

iii. fire safety precautions;

iv. checking filler caps for security and correct replacement after re-fuelling

1. Take all reasonable steps to ensure that the airplane weight and balance is within the calculated limits for the operating conditions;
2. Confirm that the airplanes performance will enable it to complete safely the pro-posed flight;
3. Not permit any crew member to perform any activity during take-off, initial climb, final approach and landing except those duties required for the safe operation of the airplane;
4. Take all reasonable steps to ensure that before take-off and before landing the flight and cabin crew are properly secured in their allocated seats;

Note: Required Cabin Crew should be properly secured in their allocated seats during taxy except for the performance of essential safety related duties.

1. Take all reasonable steps to ensure that whenever the airplane is taxiing, taking off or landing, or whenever he considers it advisable (e.g. in turbulent conditions), all passengers are properly secured in their seats, and all cabin luggage is stowed in the approved storages;
2. Ensure that the required documents and Manuals in OM-A-8.1.12 are carried and will remain valid throughout the flight or series of flights, and be produced, when requested, to a person authorized by the Civil Aviation Authority;
3. Ensure that the pre-flight inspection has been carried out;
4. To maintain a high personal standard of discipline, conduct and appearance as a representative of the Company; and thereby by active example, in the development and maintenance of a high standard of professional expertise and morale amongst the crew;
5. Not permit:

(1)    a flight data recorder to be disabled, switched off or erased during flight nor permit recorded data to be erased after flight in the event of an accident or an incident subject to mandatory reporting;

(2)    a cockpit voice recorder to be disabled or switched off during flight unless he believes that the recorded data, which otherwise would be erased automatically, should be preserved for incident or accident investigation nor permit recorded data to be manually erased during or after flight in the event of an accident or incident subject to mandatory reporting.

1. Ensure that both crew members and passengers observe the restrictions on smoking
2. Ensure that department set policies are maintained in regards to fuel saving and company set KPI’s/OTP are achieved. 

Education & Experience:

Successful completion of the command upgrade course detailed in OM-D or successful completion of the Operator Conversion Course detailed in OM-D.

• ATPL license issued by the AUTHORITY, with the appropriate type rating;
• Valid instrument rating issued by the AUTHORITY;
• Valid Class 1 medical certificate issued by the AUTHORITY;
• Valid Recurrent training and evaluations;
• Valid CAT II/III qualification (if applicable to the aircraft type);
• RVSM / PBN qualification( if applicable to the aircraft type);
• ETOPS qualification (if applicable to the aircraft type);
• MNPS qualification (if applicable to the aircraft type);
• Route and aerodrome competence in accordance with OM-C & CAR OPS 1.975.

Direct entry Captains:

• Minimum total time of 5000 hours including 1500 hours as PIC on multi pilot certified airplanes with 500 hours on type.
