Border Force Central Region - Grade 7 – Postal
Home Office
£48,004 - £56,405
Coventry (location of role can be flexible and negotiable for strong candidates)

THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO SHAPE A MORE SECURE NATIONAL POSTAL SYSTEM

Border Force is a law enforcement command within the Home Office. It’s our job to secure the UK border, by carrying out immigration and customs controls for people and goods entering the UK. With around 1250 staff, our operations include aviation, maritime and postal, as well as regional mobile command teams and general aviation, and maritime duties at other sites.

Right now, it’s a great time to join us – and it’s a truly fascinating place to work. We’re expanding our operational commands to meet the needs of port and business growth. And we’re playing an important role in the wider Border Force transformation objective: to become a fully professional law enforcement agency. For you, this promises an exciting opportunity to help shape our future.

Based at our Coventry International Hub, you’ll be a crucial member of the Postal & Aviation Command senior leadership team. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Postal & Aviation, you’ll line manage two senior officers. You’ll support the Assistant Director of Postal Command and their senior team on the delivery of the Postal Command Engagement Plan.

As part of your job, you’ll undertake frequent travel within the region, principally to Stansted and East Midlands Airport, Langley (near Heathrow), and the Home Office in London. You will also undertake some national travel, and possibly some trips overseas.

Your responsibilities will include developing an existing range of disparate systems into a coherent programme. In this way, you’ll deliver a national step change in our operational response to the threats within Fast Parcel traffic outside the big 4 (DHL, UPS, FedEx and TNT).

Working closely with stakeholders and international partners, you will lead the development of the Customs Declaration System. You’ll work with Border Force Intelligence to ensure intelligence and targeting are integrated with what we do. And you’ll work to identify new tactical interventions in postal and fast parcels, developing robust links with other UK law enforcement agencies.

At all times, you’ll work collaboratively with your colleagues in Border Force and the Home Office – in particular Border Force Strategy, Border Force BREXIT Strategy, Border Force Operational Policy, Border Force Intelligence, Home Office Smarter Working, and Home Office Technology. What’s more, you undertake effective liaison with Royal Mail Group.

And in due course, you will also take on regional responsibility for issues relating to BREXIT, in conjunction with Border Force HQ.

To be successful in your application, you’ll have a background in operational leadership, with a practical understanding of project management and delivery. You’ll bring a 2:1 degree or equivalent experience, with an aspect of law enforcement (including Border Force).

Policing or military experience would be an advantage but it’s not essential. However, it is important you bring a proven track record in effective and successful stakeholder engagement, as well as experience of operating within a complex regulatory or legal framework.

For the right person, it’s possible to be based at either Stansted or Langley, with frequent travel to Coventry (a minimum of 2 days a week).

Closing date for applications: 13th August 2017.
