Our aviation product development team in Olathe, Kansas is hiring a full time Aviation Software & Systems Engineer to support successful conception, development, simulation, testing and maintenance of sophisticated avionics systems including, but not limited to, attitude and heading references systems (AHRS) and inertial navigation systems (INS).

Garmin’s Aviation Software & Systems Engineers are responsible for conceiving innovative ways to improve the functionality, safety, and/or efficiency of avionics systems, generally by applying sensor technologies through research of emerging sensor technologies and development of new algorithmic approaches which have potential to provide a competitive advantage for avionics systems. Other core functions include designing, implementing, and testing embedded software for avionics systems and participating in support and maintenance of fielded systems numbering in the thousands and assisting in product design activities including electrical, software, or mechanical development. Also, participate in product introduction into manufacturing and support of manufacturing and manufacturing testing.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates will possess a Masters Degree or PhD in Electrical, Aerospace, Software or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university with a cumulative minimum 3.5 GPA or a field relevant to Garmin’s business needs for this role, or 4 years work experience performing a role substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description and demonstrated training and knowledge in dynamics, estimation, and/or control theory relevant to Garmin’s business needs for this role. A minimum of 2 years experience performing a role that involves structured software programming, preferably C or C++ and active use of system design and analysis tools, preferably Matlab and/or Simulink. Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and superior analytical skills with keen attention to detail and quality are also a must!

Candidates with demonstrated knowledge of Inertial sensors and navigation relevant to Garmin’s business needs, experience with RTCA DO-178B software development and certification testing procedures, and or a Private pilot’s license are preferred. Experience with production introduction into manufacturing and support of manufacturing and manufacturing testing of products utilizing inertial sensor technology.
