SUMMARY OF POSITION: (Concise Overview):

The Assistant Chief Pilot (ACP) DHC-8 is responsible for assisting the Chief Pilot with the performance of DHC-8 flight crews to ensure safe, cost effective, and reliable operations in accordance with established company policies, FAA Regulations and Berry Aviation Inc. expectations. The ACP (DHC-8) shall have a full understanding of the operation with an emphasis on safe operating practices, flight standards, and excellent customer service. The incumbent shall maintain qualification as PIC, Instructor Pilot, and Check Pilot in the DHC-8 aircraft and simulator.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Responsible for monitoring staffing levels and making staffing recommendations.

* Responsible for ensuring all aircraft are provisioned with all equipment and data necessary for operation (e.g., aircraft equipment, manuals, checklists, weight and balance data, etc.).

* Maintains currency, flight proficiency, and conducts revenue flight operations in the role of both PIC and SIC in the DHC-8 aircraft.

* Maintains currency and proficiency as a company Instructor Pilot and Check pilot for both the DHC-8 aircraft and flight simulator.

* Assists Chief Pilot and Program Managers with the recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination of DHC-8 pilots.

* Assists the Chief Pilot in DHC-8 pilot disciplinary matters.

* Functions as primary Subject Matter Expert (SME) and works with technical writing staff to provide content for DHC-8 manuals, checklists, or other documents.

* Exercises oversight and mentorship to ensure DHC-8 pilot’s compliance with flight standards policies and procedures and safe operating practices.

* Assists dispatch personnel in crew selection and pairing, flight operational decision-making, and provides solutions for technical issues that arise in the course of flight operations.

* Evaluates and documents non-routine operational occurrences (IHD Reports, other reports).

* Monitors SIC performance and provides pilot upgrade recommendations.

* Assists the Training Dept. with outsourced training provider oversight and audits.

* Participates in the development of new programs related to the DHC-8 aircraft.

* Conducts research and development of policies and procedures for compliance with new FAA and industry requirements.

* Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED):

(Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Licenses & Certifications)

* Must hold ATP certificate and Class I FAA Medical

* Must possess a thorough knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs)

* Must possess a working knowledge of FAA policy and guidance documents

* Must have demonstrated leadership abilities, interpersonal skills and professional demeanor

* Must possess a valid U.S. Passport and the ability to travel unrestricted

* Must be able to obtain a U.S. Govt. security clearance

QUALIFICATIONS (PREFERRED):

* Previous experience as Assistant Chief Pilot, Chief Pilot, or related air carrier management experience or military equivalent

* Previous air carrier experience as aircraft and/or simulator instructor and check airman or military equivalent

* Knowledge and experience with CRM, risk management, aviation safety programs, and development of standard operating procedures

* Ability to travel extensively and conduct oversight activities at locations worldwide including austere environments

* Ability to be available to work or be on call beyond normal office hours

PHYSICAL OR ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

(Lifting/Pushing/Pulling Requirements, office or working outside – conditions)

* Office environment requiring the ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time.

* Field environment requiring the ability to conduct flight operational oversight activities including outdoors and in environmentally austere locations

* Participation in significant physical lifting, pushing, and pulling activities related to aircraft loading and unloading.
